The Best Scar Treatment

Different types of scars ask for different treatments but the overall principle is roughly the same. When it comes to effective scar treatment, in my opinion three elements have to be taken into consideration. A difference can be made between scar treatment products, actions and measures. Controlling and influencing these three elements can and will benefit the final appearance of a scar.

The best products are those which a proven efficacy. This efficacy can be shown by clinical trials and other studies. Since many reviews are not unbiased I always tend to focus on scientific findings more than on online customer reviews.

Actions are things like scar massage, mildly exercising, hydration and keeping scars warm. Especially regarding scars and warmth, recent trials have shown an increased temperature of only 1 degree will significantly increase the process that decreases scar tissue (collagenolysis).

Measures are things like cutting down on alcohol intake, quit or reduce smoking, eating healthy and well balanced, if necessary adjusting (scaling down) sport or other heavy physical activities. (this because scars should not be overstretched).

When these things are all mentioned together it might seem like much of a hassle to treat scars effectively. In fact it is not because with a good product a lot can be done. On the other hand, a magical cure does not exist. Nor can scars be removed completely. Over time most scars will improve and fade. But many of us want to make the process go faster and the result as satisfying as possible.

What Is Scar Treatment?

This might sound as an odd question and the answer might seem to be obvious. I think that the first post of the scartreatmentblog should start at the essence of what this blog will be all about.  In order to provide the best, unbiased and truthful information it is essential to make perfectly clear what we are talking about. So lets start. The definition of Scars according to Wikipedia:

Scars (also called cicatrices) are areas of fibrous tissue that replace normal skin (or other tissue) after injury. A scar results from the biologic process of wound repair in the skin and other tissues of the body. Thus, scarring is a natural part of the healing process. With the exception of very minor lesions, every wound (e.g. after accident, disease, or surgery) results in some degree of scarring.

And treatment according to Merriam Webster:

1 a : the act or manner or an instance of treating someone or something : handling, usage <the star requires careful treatment> b : the techniques or actions customarily applied in a specified situation
